Katie is the only child of Muggle parents Edward and Amanda Bell, shop owners in Cardiff, Wales. She grew up in a loving nurturing environment. Katie's parents always knew there was something different and special about their youngster, though receiving her letter from Hogwarts came as a complete shock and was quite an adjustment for the family. Her parents were reluctant to have their only child schooled so far from home, as well as accepting that she was that "special" in the first place. Katie's desire to go and her explanation that she'd always felt like an outsider and like she was meant for more finally persuaded her folks to let her go.

At Hogwarts she was sorted into Gryffindor House, seemingly the most welcoming and warm of the four houses, still didn't quite feel that she belonged, she wasn't pure blood or even half-blood and she contemplated going home for a time and at first kept pretty much to herself and concentrated on her studies, that was until she took in the sight of her first Quidditch game. By the end of that first game Katie knew she had to play, it was almost all she could think of, well almost all - her eye had also caught sight of a certain player in her House, three years ahead of her by the name of Oliver Wood.

Painfully shy, Katie took to standing on the sidelines during Gryffindor practices - studying the drills and plays, the desire to speak to the players (most especially Wood) was there, but she could never quite will her legs to move her forward nor mouth to expel speech when they would pass by, or she'd find them in the common room. By the time the holidays came round and she headed home the only thing she could speak of to her parents was Quidditch, Wood and her desire for a proper gaming broom so she could solitarily run drills and practice so that she might have a chance to try out for the team her second year. She returned from hols to Hogwarts with a shiny new Nimbus racing broom in tow.

She took to practicing every chance she could get when the pitch wasn't in use for a game or team practice, this usually meant missing dinner and often some quality study time. It was tricky, Katie didn't have access to any of the Quidditch equipment, no quaffle to try to catch and toss, no snitch to go after, no bludger to dodge or bat to beat back said non existent bludger away. Her broom wasn't the only thing she'd brought from home, she had muggle balls which she used Mobilis spells to put the balls in motion (she'd always had a natural talent for making objects move from the time she was wee). She felt a bit silly out there all alone but she had a goal and spirit and determination to work toward achieving it, feeling silly would be a small price to pay should the effort pay off with a spot on next years team.

During a rather difficult practice session where absolutely nothing seemed to be going quite right yet she continued to carry on in spite of several mishaps (including taking her faux bludger to the forehead), Oliver Wood happened onto the pitch to find a very exhausted yet still determined Katie fighting through her self induced torture and approached the girl, in the end taking her under his wing and from that day on the pair would bond over the game and eventually become practically inseparable best mates.

Katie did make the team in her second year, for the most part over-shadowed by first year student Harry Potter being brought in as the team seeker, but it didn't take away the personal accomplishment, she wasn't playing for the attention anyway - love of the game and the friendship forged with her teammates and the unbreakable bond between she and Oliver and the pure joy of playing along side him, win or lose.

She spent a fair majority of her third year watching her back, the Chamber of Secrets had been opened and attacks were rampant on muggle borns and though she had a healthy fear for her life, Katie did try to enjoy each and every good moment there was to be had that year, and almost every brilliant moment involved Oliver, and her love for her best mate grew with each passing day, yet she still was too afraid to tell him, too afraid it would change everything.

More dark times came to Hogwarts in her fourth year, Dementors, the inhuman Azkaban prison guards, patrol the school - draining happiness from anything they approach and their presence is felt hardily on the Quidditch pitch when they target Potter mid-game and cause a loss. However in spite of everything, Gryffindor takes the cup that year, something they'd been so determined to win for a grand send off for Oliver's last year as the team captain. Oliver kisses Katie hard on the mouth on the pitch after the win, and though it was obvious to her it was only friendly and quite innocent, it was Katie's first kiss and it took her breath away.

Katie felt lost when Oliver graduated and was sighed as a reserve player for Puddlemere United at the end of her fourth year, she started her fifth year feeling out of balance and her main focus was her studies with the Quidditch season being a no go with Hogwarts hosting the Triwizard Tournament and hoping that this year would pass without too much incident and also looking forward to joining Oliver to take in the Quidditch World Cup - she had planned to finally confess her feelings, and was about to do so when Death Eaters stormed the camp after the Cup and the Dark Mark of Lord Voldemort was emblazoned into the night sky - there would be a lot of clinging and hand holding, but no confessions made that night. She spent the majority of that year firmly focused on her grades and getting through O.W.L.'s - Her grades were excellent and she was quite proud of her O.W.L.'s scores.

It is in her sixth year Katie begins to come into her own, she became captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team and formed a rather enjoyable rivalry with Eddie Carmichael, the captain of the Ravenclaw team - The two carrying the banter on and off the pitch, though Katie didn't wish to admit it, she actually liked him and looked forward to seeing him in classes and hallways even if just to exchange a quick quip or smug smirk. When Deloris Umbridge refused to teach any real Defense Against the Dark Arts, Katie joins fellow students in secret to learn from Harry Potter and becomes a member of Dumbeldore's Army. Katie's sixth year ends on a high note when Gryffindor wins the cup.

In her seventh and final year at Hogwarts Katie's rivalry turns to a romantic relationship with Ravenclaw captain Eddie Carmichael. Eddie is Katie's first boyfriend, and she genuinely adores him, but their relationship suffers greatly due to trust issues, she cannot shake the thoughts of Eddie's past behavior as a ladies man as well as rumors that he's only seeing Katie to gain an upper hand on the pitch, no matter how much she wants to trust him, something keeps stirring mistrust. Adding to their issues is Katie's unyielding love and devotion to Oliver Wood, though at this point Katie is sure the feelings are one sided and Oliver will never return them, though in her heart it is still her greatest wish - still, she is determined to live in the here and now and make things work with Eddie, whom she has grown to love in spite of all the warning signs.
